Aberrant Dragonmarks
A legacy aberrant-mark feat with unstable magic and an optional greater-power rule.
A legacy feat that grants unstable magic through an aberrant dragonmark.
Prerequisite: No other dragonmark.
Benefits
- Increase Constitution by 1, to a maximum of 20.
- Learn one Sorcerer cantrip and one 1st-level Sorcerer spell. Constitution is your spellcasting ability. Cast the 1st-level spell once through the mark, regaining that use after a short or long rest.
- When casting that 1st-level spell through the mark, you may expend and roll one Hit Die. An even result gives temporary hit points equal to the roll. An odd result deals that much force damage to a random other creature within 30 feet; if no other creature is in range, you take the damage.
Determine the mark’s appearance and an associated flaw: constant pain, whispers, audible hissing under stress, altered surrounding skin, animals’ unease, mood swings, changing looks, or nightmares.
Optional greater aberrant powers
This optional rule requires the DM’s choice. At 10th level, an eligible character has a 10 percent chance to gain an epic boon from the legacy Dungeon Master’s Guide. On failure, repeat that chance on each later level gained. The DM chooses or randomly determines a gained boon.
Gaining a boon this way permanently removes one Hit Die and reduces maximum hit points by a roll of that die plus Constitution modifier, with a minimum reduction of 1. This reduction cannot be reversed.
