Finding a route means tracing connections between levels as well as streets.

Finding a route means tracing connections between levels as well as streets.

Sharn needs more than one kind of map. A side view shows stacked neighborhoods, a plan view shows the quarters, and a ward map locates districts within one layer. A route depends on the bridges, stairs, lifts, and entrances connecting them.

Using the maps

Each of the five principal quarters has upper, middle, and lower wards. The maps below separate those layers. The same apparent location on two maps can be many floors apart, and a destination across a gap may require a detour to a crossing.

An address is clearest when it includes quarter, ward, district, and entrance. District names help locate a neighborhood; they do not identify which side of a tower has the usable door. The vertical guide explains the layers, and transport covers ways of moving between them.

These historical maps depict Sharn around 998 YK. They establish the city's broad geography and older district names. Mana Standard takes place in 1250 YK, after generations of new residents, repairs, and institutional change. A historical label records that earlier city rather than promising a particular business is still trading.
