Getting around Sharn

Passengers and freight converge at a busy tower interchange.

In Sharn, an address needs a height as well as a direction. A nearby tower may be reachable only by a bridge several levels above or below the destination. Stairs, lifts, crowds, and the correct entrance turn a short distance on a flat map into a longer journey.

A useful address includes the quarter, ward, district, and entrance. The vertical guide explains the broad layers; map sources provide a different view of the same city.

Walking, lifts, and skycoaches

Bridges and stairs carry ordinary foot traffic. Lifts connect some landings, but access and maintenance affect their usefulness. A failed lift can delay a commute or make a visit to a clinic substantially harder.

Skycoaches are small flying passenger craft that provide paid transport between the city's towers and landings. Their flight depends on Sharn's special magical environment. They operate locally, while journeys across Breland require other transport. Wealthier passengers can buy quicker trips and private arrangements.

The same skyline contains a tenant planning a stair route around a closed lift and a household leaving from a private terrace. Both are navigating Sharn, with very different costs in time and money.

Registered hubs

Many hubs recognize the shared Standard identifier. Enrollment makes routine service convenient, but access can depend on a working account and accepted credential. A changeling's verification error can mean a missed fare or shift even when a Sivis review later clears the mismatch.

A journey's connections depend on service arrangements, schedules, and repairs as well as the physical route. Their cost can vary sharply with the level of service.

Beyond the city

The lightning rail is a train of passenger and cargo coaches propelled by a magically bound elemental. It follows lines of enchanted conductor stones. Stations and the stone network determine where it can go. Orien operates this land-transit service alongside its delivery business.

Elemental airships carry passengers and cargo through the air, with a bound elemental providing motive power. Their conspicuous elemental rings, crews, and docking facilities distinguish them from local skycoaches. Engineers maintain the binding and the vessel's other enchantments, using refined dragonshards as part of that work. Lyrandar is the familiar House name in air and sea shipping.

Roads and river traffic provide other connections. Each mode serves different destinations and budgets; a long journey may depend on several services and their schedules.
