From war to daily dependency

Old grievances survived the Treaty, and useful House services became part of rebuilding. The Standard's growth was gradual. Its convenience is now familiar at transit gates, service desks, and accounts used for standing payments.

Breland retained its crown and legislature. Sharn retained elected government and courts. Their authority remains real, alongside House influence over essential systems and the money needed to keep them running.

The past in a household

For most people, the Last War comes through monuments, inherited stories, laws, and institutions. Long-lived residents and old warforged veterans can remember it directly. Cyran communities carry a history of a lost homeland; the Mournland is also the destination of present-day salvage crews.

The coming charter vote puts older fears into current arguments. Supporters invoke safety and the memory of the Mourning. Opponents question the reach of the proposed punishment powers. Its outcome remains ahead of the city.

The more distant background is described in the Last War, the Mourning, and the Treaty.
