Bugbears are large, powerful goblinoid people whose histories include Dhakaan, later communities across Khorvaire, and the neighborhoods of modern cities. Long reach, strength, and a capacity for quiet movement can be useful gifts. They do not decide a person's occupation or character.

More than an assigned role

Dhakaani traditions call bugbears guul'dar and associate their strength with service to the wider community. That history includes demanding military roles, but an account of an ancient army cannot stand in for a modern life. Someone can inherit those traditions closely, know them through family stories, or have no meaningful connection to them.

Goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears share a broad historical relationship while differing in their experiences. A family may have lived in Sharn for generations without belonging to Darguun or claiming an imperial identity.

Daily life in the towers

The city's varied bodies make good design a practical concern. Sturdy stairs, a sleeping space with enough room, and comfortable tools matter in a bugbear household as much as access to a reliable lift. Strength is useful to an employer; it does not entitle one to dangerous work or ownership of the worker's time.

A quiet porter, stage performer, careful repairer, and blunt organizer can all be bugbears. The older history beneath Sharn belongs beside those ordinary lives rather than replacing them.
